Phil 6640 course papers (ca. 18-30 pp., plus abstract and bibliography) are due to be submitted to Prof. Taylor via email by 11:59 pm Wednesday 10 December. Submissions before that date will be much appreciated. Extensions for illness or other serious reasons may be considered according to usual Department procedures.
Use Chicago Style with footnotes. First footnote contains full reference, later notes abbreviated reference. Include a full bibliography at the end of the paper.
Double space pages except for lengthy quotations which should be single-spaced and indented.
After the title of your paper, include an abstract of 100-150 words.
Also provide 8-10 key words.
I also request that you provide a structured outline of your paper.
(Suggestion: After completing your paper, run it through Microsoft Copilot asking the program to create an outline and summary of the paper. See how well this corresponds to your own outline.)
Proofread your paper as seriously as one would expect a journal submission to be proofread.
In grading your paper these criteria (which happen to be those of the Philosophy Department Doctoral Qualifying Paper) will be used:
Setup, Framing, Conclusion
Engagement with Literature
Development and Defense of Thesis
Mechanics and Style
