Fall 2021: Arabic: Beginning level Reading Arabic Philosophical Texts. Knowledge of Arabic grammar assumed. Tuesdays 9 am for 60-75 min., starting 7 Sept. via TEAMS.  The expectation is each student will do 4-6 hours preparation. Readings from the Kalam fi mahd al-khair, the Theology of Aristotle, al-Farabi if students are capable. This is for beginners who have completed grammar study roughly equivalent to Thackston’s An Introduction to Koranic and Classical Arabic. An Elementary Grammar of the Language. Fall 2021: Latin: Intermediate Readings of Philosophical Texts. Mondays 9 am for 60-75 min. US Central Time starting 13 Sept. The expectation is each student will do 4-6 hours preparation. We will be reading Aquinas, De Veritate starting at Q.1, A.5. Students should have completed roughly 2 years of Latin grammar study. Interested students should email  Richard.Taylor@Marquette.edu.

Fall 2021: Latin: Beginning Readings of Philosophical Texts. The expectation is each student will do 4-6 hours preparation. We will be reading Aquinas, De Ente et Essentia. Students should have completed the equivalent of Wheelock’s Latin Grammar (https://archive.org/details/wheelockslatingr00whee). 28 May – 23 August 2021. AAIWG Graduate Student Islamic Philosophy Reading Group.  Students seeking to increase their knowledge of Islamic philosophy in its own context will be reading three chapters of The Routledge Companion to Islamic Philosophy edited by Richard Taylor and Luis Xavier López-Farjeat a week. Students will meet on Wednesdays to briefly discuss the assigned readings (time TBD) and will meet with Dr. Richard Taylor on Friday mornings, from 10-11 am CT, for further discussion. Students are also asked to complete a one-page summary of a chapter and submit it to Dr. Taylor by 8 pm US Central Time on Thursday evening.
